The BIG Build 2024.
Weeks 1 and 2
Day 1. Work begins, materials arriving.
Day 1. Walls stripped and wall divider built.
Day 1. Making a start on the drains.
Day 2. Walls plastered. Floorboards removed to start installing new pipe work.
Day 3. Starting to fit new boiler.
Day 4. Starting to remove side of kitchen chimney.
Old wallpaper discovered 1940's?
Day 5. Continuing to lay pipes.
Day 5. October 26 1973 newspaper under floorboards
WEEK 2. Day 6. Hot water tank removed
Day 6. More old wallpaper revealed.
Day 9. New window fitted in shower room.
Day 9. I started to prime fresh plaster with undercoat
Day 7. Roof work fitting the vent for the boiler.
Day 8. Visit of gas inspector to approve new boiler. Hot water and heat returns.

Day 14. Our brilliant builders.
Tiles for splashback behind sink and window over door ordered.
Now to paint.
In the old bathroom stripped and ready to be demolished.

Our extension has gone. We have a new back door!
We have a bit of a different view out of our back window!
Week 4. Day 16
The digger's arrived and is making ready the foundations.
No Roman coins as yet!
Day 17. The big grab.
We now have a big hole ready for laying foundations.
Also an old bottle was found while digging, a beer bottle from Phipps brewery, Northampton.
Complete with pot stopper.
Day 18
Finishing off digging out the clay and old foundations.
Day 19.
Pipes laid and gravel packed in.
Groundworks ready for steel and concrete. Patio cleaned of clay.
Day 24
The concrete has arrived.
Pumping and levelling
This is very exciting. Waiting for the ball to appear, after cleaning the pipe.

Week 6.
Day 25
We have lift off.
Day 26.
The walls are rising at speed.
Day 27.
First few layers of brickwork.

Continuing to build the roof.
Day 36.
Today involved finishing the wooden roof frame, insulation and
the roofers came to start adding the waterproof felt finish.
Day 37
The roof is almost finished.
Day 38.
Day 39/40
Laying the underfloor heating.
Scaffolding taken down.
Day 41
A layer of concrete is added to insulate and store heat from the underfloor heating.
A day to dry.
Day 43
We're all bricked up. New door into extension will be built!
Back door bricked up and walls for the downstairs toilet
and utility cupboard started.
WEEK 10.
Day 44
Started to dismantle the old kitchen
More old wallpaper discovered.
Plumbing and electrics
Windows and doors have arrived
Day 46.

Dust sheets ready for demolishing the wall between our sitting room
and the old kitchen

We now have one big room. Great for waltzes.

Making a start on fixing the plaster boards.
Week 11.

Plastering going really well. Lights in.

'Dave the decorator' has started painting the new kitchen extension.
New doors being fitted.

Kitchen furniture and fittings being added.
Soon beginning new flooring and walls to be plastered.
Rest of old kitchen to be removed.

Starting to landscape back patio area
New floor fitted
Day 67, (next to last full day)
Finishing off details. Downstairs toilet, electrics inside and outside.
Tiling in kitchen and downstairs toilet.
Continuing to lay patio area.
The boys are doing a great job cleaning.
DAY 68.
The Final Day and completion of our build.
